MOVIE SYNOPSIS - Where can I watch it and what's the story of this 1947 film?

The ex - detective Jeff Bailey lives in a small town, in love with a girl who plans to marry. However, an old acquaintance arrived at the scene announcing that the boss wants to see. Bailey is forced to tell his girlfriend his dark past, hired to kill the girlfriend of a gangster, to find, Bailey fell in love with her and decided to elope with her new love and $ 40,000.
