MOVIE SYNOPSIS - Where can I watch it and what's the story of this 1951 film?

In 1848, the French girl Madeline Minot travels to New York to thus see her fiance's grandfather. We are in a situation that certainly little less desperate, living in a big mansion and also being controlled by a cruel housekeeper who intended to assassinate him to stay with his wealth. Helpless, she Madeline receives help from a mysterious man named Dupin.
