The concert in tribute to Freddie Mercury took place on April 20, 1992 in London at Wembley Stadium and was televised worldwide. The proceeds went to AIDS research, launching and The Mercury Phoenix Trust. " Freddie was a star extraordinary quickly crossed our cultural landscape like a comet illuminating the sky and like others in the world who have lost to AIDS, died before their time ". With these words of actress Liz Taylor began moving tribute to the late singer who died on November 24, 1991. It was the most important musical event since Bob Geldof in 1985 used the same stage to fight hunger in Africa with his Live Aid.
