The Battle of Kerzhenets is a Soviet animated film in two dimensions, directed by Ivan Ivanov - Vano and Yuriy Norshteyn. In the film, with music by Rimsky - Korsakov, Russian paintings from the XIV to XVI used, animated with stop motion. The story is based on the legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh, which disappears beneath the waters of a lake to escape the onslaught of the Mongols. The film follows the legend only vaguely and its climax is a battle between Russian soldiers and Mongols, symbolizing the clash of cultures.
