In a remote corner of Siberia, men believe in shamans, exorcists, new Messiah and a legend that speaks of a lake whose depths let out the sound of the bells of a cathedral. According to this legend, centuries ago, the town of Kitezh, threatened by a Mongol invasion, was saved by God who made the lake Swetloyar engulfed their enemies. This film caused some controversy in Russia to present Siberia as a region of culture deeply primitive and dominated by superstition and mysticism.
