Denmark 1770: The German Johann Friedrich Struensee is highly respected at court. He is not only the personal physician of the supposedly feeble-minded King Christian VII, but also the lover of his wife, Queen Caroline Mathilde. In addition, long before the French Revolution, the bourgeois Enlightenment thinker initiates reforms that cause great excitement among the country's nobility and the other absolutist rulers in Europe. But his powerful opponents do not remain idle. Through cunning intrigues, they achieve the arrest and conviction of the German upstart. In 1772, Struensee is publicly executed.
