MOVIE SYNOPSIS - Where can I watch it and what's the story of this 1949 film?

Just before he died, Chris Kirby asks Adam Black, his best friend, take your child to the orphanage where he grew up. Adam, a man wrapped in the dark world of illegal gambling, decides to adopt as Evelyn goddaughter, give him an education and meet all their material needs. After several years of study in Europe, Evelyn returns home from Adam turned into quite a woman, attractive and educated, which will soon capture the attention of the men around her.
