MOVIE SYNOPSIS - Where can I watch it and what's the story of this 1984 film?

During World War I, a poor black Southerner travels north from Chicago to somehow get work in slaughterhouses of the town, where he becomes involved in the organized labor movement. He becomes prominent as a leader of his fellow African Americans in the Union, although many, including his best mate, see him as a traitor. This movie is part of the American Playhouse saga (1982, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1992).
